IN THIS EXCERCISE

Self-Reflective Filmmaker’s Journal

Think of this as a way to turn your life into a screenplay, one moment at a time. At the end of each week, take a moment to reflect—what stood out to you? Was there a conversation that lingered in your mind? A small, beautiful detail you noticed? A challenge you overcame? Now, write it as a short scene, with yourself as the main character. Be honest. It doesn’t have to be dramatic—sometimes the smallest moments make the best stories.’

How This Helps

This exercise will help you find your personal voice as a storyteller and train you to see life through a cinematic lens. You’ll get better at capturing emotions, refining your screenwriting, and recognizing the little details that make a scene come alive.

How Often?

Try doing this once a week. It’s enough to stay consistent without feeling overwhelming.

Want to Take It Further?

After writing your scene, think about how you’d direct it. What camera angles would you use? How would you light it? What kind of music would play in the background? Maybe, one day, you’ll turn one of these journal entries into a short film.
